Poor battery life with the iPhone 4S
I now have an iPhone 4S as you can see in the pictures I have taken in this post! I’m quite happy. However there is one thing that I regret about getting the iPhone 4S. – I’m even contemplating giving my iPhone 4S to my sister.
The battery life
The battery lasts 8 hours according to Apple and that’s only if you use it for menial tasks, such as for phone calls and sending texts. Using Facebook, YouTube, games and other apps will also suck the life out of the battery and today I was only able to squeeze 4 hours using such apps. That’s not bad, but the problem with the iPhone is that you can’t switch batteries like android smartphones.
By comparison I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 and there is one thing that this phone can do, that my iPhone cannot. I can replace the battery with a fully charged one. This means that I don’t have to use an external charger to charge my phone when I’m on the move as I know I have an extra fully charged battery at hand.
Why doesn’t Apple allow you to change batteries?
You cannot change the battery in an iPhone, as the battery is integrated. This sucks because your battery will very quickly run out without a source of electricity.
Where with my Samsung Galaxy S2 I can simply replace the battery with another that I charged earlier on and I’ll have no problem whatsoever or have any issues with my phone running out when I need it.
I guess that is one design fault which Apple needs to address. They either need to lengthen the battery life or make the battery replaceable.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a lovely phone, and the GUI is nice & smooth and I’d really love the software in a Samsung or HTC phone, as it the hardware itself is more versatile, considering you can add memory and change the battery, among other things.
However the one thing that perhaps most smart-phone makers need to address is the battery time. Although it seems it is improving, I think there is still more work to be done on improving the life of the batteries. We should really be at the age where batteries should last for days without charging. – That’s a smartphone I’d definitely buy.
