New Nexus 4 Review

5SHARESFacebookTwitter I thought I’d do a review of the Nexus 4 considering it’s a purchase I recently made. It’s not actually the phone that I intended to get, but hey, here we are and now I have a Nexus 4. I originally intended to purchase a HTC One, but that didn’t go exactly as planned. Let’s just say, I got scammed on GumTree and that’s that. Back to the Nexus 4. It’s a phone that is manufactured by LG and was a phone sold by Google. Google still have a product page up for this phone, but if you attempt to purchase from the Google Play store, you’ll find that all the Nexus 4 smartphones are sold out. This is a shame considering Google lowered the price of their 8GB model to just £159 (a steal) and their 16GB model to £199. I, unfortunately, had to purchase the phone through eBay and bought an 8GB model for £185. It’s still a cheap price, considering the fact that this phone is brilliant and you won’t get another phone like this for a comparable price. Specification 4.7″ diagonal (Display) 1280 x 768 pixel resolution (320 ppi) WXGA IPS Corning® Gorilla® Glass 2 Weight: 139g 2100 mAH battery (15.30 hours talk time; 16.2 days stand-by time) Camera Front: 1.3 MP Back (Main): 8MP (with flash) Wireless charging Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) 2GB of RAM; Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 (Quad core, 1500 MHz) Variants: 8GB or 16GB (storage) Design With a 4.7 inch display and rounded edges to give the phone a modern look – this phone is certainly something to marvel – especially taking into account the price of the phone. Perhaps it just me being biased, as I haven’t purchased a phone in the past 2 years, but this phone is simply beautiful in my eyes. The smartphone has a rich feeling of cold glass encompassing the back with edges that are rubbery, which helps with gripping onto the smartphone.   Pictures I’ve taken with the Nexus 4 These are pictures that I’ve taken to hopefully give an idea to those reading this article a feel of what the camera is like on a Nexus 4. In my honest opinion, I think it’s pretty damn good for an 8MP camera. Obviously, if you compare it to say a DLSR or a dedicated digital camera then those cameras are always going to win. However, if you are aiming for that type of quality, then I suggest purchasing a HTC One.   Take Aways It’s seriously a great phone that will likely last me another 2 years before I have to upgrade. The price of the phone is...

LG G2: New Flagship Smartphone

12SHARESFacebookTwitter LG G2: New Flagship Smartphone in the Mobile Arena LG Electronics recently announced their newest contribution to the mobile arena, the LG G2. Just like the launch of Samsung Galaxy S4, the new LG smartphone has also created a lot of buzz due to its innovative features and superb hardware portfolio. So before it officially debut this third quarter, let’s inspect the amazing features of this device labeled as “S4 killer.” The Design For starters, the G2 packs a bigger screen and a thinner body. Its viewing panel is 5.2-inch, slightly bigger than the S4’s 5-inch display. But what’s interesting about the newbie is its bezel-less look. The screen is pushed to the limits, flaunting only a little space carrying the manufacturer’s branding below the display. LG has also eliminated the physical buttons on the bezel and replaced it with an on-screen Android controls, just like the Google Nexus 4. The volume rocker is placed on the rear side of the phone, seated below the camera. Available in black and white, the gizmo is also customisable with colorful magnetic covers with a square window that triggers the smartphone to display different types of clock when worn. Innovative Profile One of the main features of the gizmo is its inclusion of a 4G LTE receiver, which allow its users to surf the internet faster with a higher downlink and uplink bandwidth, according to Verizon’s news center. Depending on your location, it can be 10x the speed of the standard 3G connection. The device also runs with the Android Jelly Bean OS version 4.2.2, which makes it available to be upgraded to the anticipated Android Key Lime Pie. G2 also has an NFC chip on-board for the new method of cashless payment solution, information gathering and file transferring. The gadget’s screen is also at par with the latest flagship smart devices on the market. It has an IPS + LCD technology with a True HD display and a resolution of 1080 x 1920 or 424 pixels per inch. That’s even higher than the iPhone’s Retina display. It is coated by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, giving it an extra protection for accidental drops. Hardware It may not have an 8-core CPU like the international version of the S4, but the G2 packs an otherwise robust Qualcomm 800 Snapdragon processor clocked at 2.26 GHz speed. It is also backed by 2 GB of RAM. Joining the profile is an Adreno 330 graphics enhancements. The Antutu 3.3 system benchmark result is higher than the competing Android devices like the S4, HTC One and Sony Xperia Z. Meaning, gamers and heavy media users will...

A better phone or a better laptop?

12SHARESFacebookTwitter A better phone or a better laptop? I’ve been thinking about this for a long time and I really want a new phone, but I also really want a new laptop. I can only afford to choose one of those two options that I have and it’s bloody difficult. This is the laptop I’m thinking of getting: Processor – Intel Core i5 3230M – 2.4 GHz RAM – 8GB Hard Drive – 1 TB Operating System – Windows 8 (64-Bit) Optical Drive – DVD Super Multi Graphics – NVIDIA GeForce GT 635M Graphics Memory – 2 GB Cost: £539.86 It would be quite the upgrade from my current laptop model: AMD A4-4355M processor Windows 8 Memory: 4 GB Hard drive: 500 GB AMD HD 6520G Graphics Memory – 2 GB £430.00 For the record, the AMD A4-4355M processor is a POS. I bought this laptop a year and a half ago and from the very start it wouldn’t really run certain programs that required too much CPU usage. It seems to not fair well when it comes to CPU intensive programs and games. I especially want to run programs like PhotoShop, and I generally want the ability to open up to 20 tabs at a time. I feel the Intel Core i5 2.4 Ghz could possibly cater to my needs and would be much better than the POS I have now. Unless someone has any other suggestions, I’m going with an i5. I’m possibly looking into the i7 to, essentially, “future-proof” my laptop choice, although I’ll have to save a little more in order to get that type of beastly laptop. My second option for a new phone would be the Samsung Galaxy S4; it’s a little cheaper than a laptop, but considering the differences and capabilities, you’d think a phone would be much, much cheaper. – Then again, they are essentially fitting a laptop into a tiny piece of hardware. So, phone or laptop? I’m more inclined to go with a better laptop because I use my laptop more often than my phone. Though, I find myself not using my phone because it’s a piece of crap. Would I actually use my phone more often if it was better? Possibly. I’d likely take more pictures, as my Samsung Galaxy S model is a little crappy when it comes to taking pictures. Which one would you choose &...

Connected to WiFi – No Internet

9SHARESFacebookTwitter If you have this problem, then I might just have the solution. It’s a weird issue, as you’d think that you can connect to the internet if your WiFi signal is at its highest and … it connects. I came across this issue yesterday and I honestly didn’t know what the problem was. After doing several things (Restarting the phone, checking if the WiFi password is correct etc) to find what the issue could be, I gave up.  So, today I looked into it even more and came across one solution that worked. I updated the date & time on my phone to the current date today. For some odd reason my phone’s date & time changed to 2012 and was a couple hours behind. My phone had somehow traveled back to the past. When loading Facebook, I got connection issues. When sending messages via Line/KakaoTalk, I got connection issues. Once I changed the date to the current date, everything started working again and I was finally able to connect to the internet. While this worked for me, it might not work for you. Either way, it’s a good solution and one you should try, should you come across this...

HTC One vs Galaxy S4

9SHARESFacebookTwitter HTC One vs Galaxy S4  I thought it’d be interesting to see the HTC One and Galaxy S4 side-by-side, so I created this graphic below doing just that! 🙂 I feel when it comes to the design the Samsung Galaxy S4 is a little outdated and a little too much like Apple’s iPhone 3G. Where with the HTC One, I feel completely different about its design. It looks unique, stylish and up-to-date. Although it sports a 4.7 inch screen, I feel that is more than enough space to do what ever you want on the phone. While the S4 has a bigger 5.0 inch screen, the design does it in for me. It doesn’t have that same look of uniqueness and ultimately HTC’s design department has done a decent job. I also think that the Snapdragon 600 Quad-Core 1.7 Ghz is more than adequate for any smartphone. The Galaxy S4 also does not fair too badly and for 70% of the S4s produced will all likely get the same processor as HTC’s One. Samsung Galaxy S4 review

7SHARESFacebookTwitter Samsung announced the Samsung Galaxy S4 on March 14th, 2013 and released the smartphone in 155 countries in late April 2013. The phone is a successor to the Galaxy S III, and its highlighted features are higher battery life time, incorporates a thinner design and has a slightly larger display. The new smartphone contains some of the Samsung Galaxy S3’s design, but with a wider and longer display. The S4 is also in competition with the HTC One, so I threw together a little side-by-side comparison. However, this is quite obviously not fit to real-life scale. We’re just comparing the designs of each phone. Hardware While I feel the design of the S4 is pretty nice, I would however say that the HTC One has the S4 beat on design. The old rounded feel brings me back to the days of the iPhone 3 or even the Samsung Galaxy S1. At least with the S2 they went for the more cornered look and I think the S2 looks much more appealing in terms of design. When it comes to specification, the S4 of course fairs as one of the best smartphones based on its hardware and based on region the phone has a Quad Core processor that runs up to 1.9 Ghz. Other differences such as the screen size has been done by narrowing the smartphone’s shell to give it an extra 2 inches on the Samsung Galaxy S3. The battery life has also seen a significant increase and the Galaxy S4 holds a 2600 mAh battery where by comparison the S3 holds a 2,100 mAh battery. You can read more on the specs below: (with a side-by-side comparison) Galaxy S4 Specifications. 1.9 GHz Quad-Core Processor / 1.6 GHz Octa-Core Processor /1.2 GHz quad-core Cortex-A7 CPU 2.5G, 3G and 4G network support 5 inch HD Super AMOLED (1920 x 1080) display, 441 ppi Operating System: Android 4.2.2, Jelly bean. 16 / 32 / 64GB internal memory and an additional microSD slot can be added, which supports 64GB of external memory. 2GB of RAM 13 megapixel camera with auto focus, flash, zero shutter lag and BIS.
